CARE Bangladesh observes National Safe Motherhood Day

With the slogan “Ensure midwives’ presence, reduce maternal deaths”for this year,National Safe Motherhood Day was observedthroughout the country on May 28,2018. On this occasion, CARE Bangladesh extended assistance to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) in organizing one national level and four district level events at Dhaka, Gazipur, Sunamganj and Khulna through various projects and initiatives;withMaternal Health Program (MNC&AH), Health Department under Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).



 



 



 



 



 



 



 



Through CARE managed projects GSK-CHWI, GSK-RMG, HALOW+ and IECMNCH in Sunamganj, Gazipur and Khulna district respectively, CARE helped organize colorful rallies to raise awareness about National Safe Motherhood Day.



 



 



 



 



 



 



 



 





In Dhaka, CARE helped raise awareness about the importance of National Safe Motherhood Day through posters and festoons that were placed at key points across Dhaka including at SAARC fountain, Kawran Bazar.



 



 



 



 





On the day of the event, a discussion session was organized by DGHS at Bangabandhu International Conference Center, Sher-e Bangla Nagar, Dhaka which was attended by health unit team from CARE Bangladesh. The discussion, which was chaired by Professor Dr. Abul Kalam Azad, Director General of DGHS and. Zahed Malik, State Minister, MoHFW as Chief Guest, highlighted the concerns associated with maternal and child health in Bangladesh while also expressing the importance of midwives’ presence in reducing maternal and child mortality.



 



 





In addition, CARE Bangladesh distributed 3,800 T-Shirts and 600 Caps to all 64 districts’ Civil Surgeon offices and Health Departments in Dhaka.
