What Real Change Looks Like
02 October, 2018

Tipping Point project of CARE Bangladesh organized a photo-voice exhibition titled What Real Change Looks Like (আমার চোখে বদলে যাওয়া) - a photography experience created by girls and women of Photo-Voice at Six Seasons Hotel in Gulshan. The project works with adolescent boys, girls and communities to change social norms and practices that perpetuate child marriage. To understand how the work in the past three years has contributed to changes in the lives of girls and their communities, Tipping Point used Photo-Voice as an evaluation tool.  Adolescent girls and mothers, who had never used cameras before, shared their stories and perspectives through photography. The stories of girls collected during the evaluation highlighted that lack of access to education, sports, and other growth opportunities is closely linked to child marriage.

Ms. Charlotta Schlyter, Honorable Ambassador, Embassy of Sweden, Bangladesh inaugurated the exhibition as Chief Guest. Ms. Phedra Moon Morris, Head of Aid Development Cooperation, High Commission of Canada was present as special guest. Shipon Hazra, Sajena Akter, Jasiya Aktar and Shiuly Senapati, program participants from Sunamganj shared their stories of change. Khushi Kabir, Executive Director, Nijera Kori, Rokeya Sultana, International Artist and Dr Ruchira Tabassum, Researcher & Activist, ICDDRB were present as panelists. The event was a huge success with the active participation of the audience who reflected on their own perceptions and expectations from the project in the near future. The program concluded with a vote of thanks from Zia Choudhury, Country Director, CARE Bangladesh who congratulated and commended the girls for their courage, bravery and beautiful photography.
